Nursing history
Historical
Books about historical events. Some are novels with a huge amount of research behind them, others are more factual.
Lilian Harry. A girl called Thursday. A novel about life in the Voluntary Aid Detachment, set at the Royal Hospital Haslar in Gosport during the second world war.
Christine Hallett. Nurses of Passchendaele. A historical account of nursing on the front line during the first world war.
Some interesting bits and pieces added as I come across them from nursing history. Some old, some more recent, some very specific, others that many can relate to. Our history is what shapes us and it is important to remember what has gone before.
Preface of Toohey's Medicine for Nurses from 1965 and hand written notes from the 1960's
State registered nurse badges, presented on qualification by the General Nursing Council which was the NMCs predecessor. The one on the left with the little chain is from the 1920's and the one on the right from the 1960's. Both are engraved on the back with the name of the recipient and date of presentation.
